Our Story

Try Vegan® began as an idea that hit Vince Gulino at a Halloween party in 2014. He knew he wanted to spread the message of veganism and went on a mission to figure out how. He wrote a 40 page business plan and was about to start looking for investors for Try Vegan restaurant until he realized veganism was a tough sell in those days, most people hadn’t even heard of the word yet. He then realized he was 26, living at home, and had some savings so he decided to take the money he had saved toward purchasing a house and invested it in himself. It was not a lot of money, but enough for him to buy a few old shuttle buses to convert into food trucks. In May 2015 he quit his job and to begin converting the old shuttle bus into a food truck. After a long winding road, Try Vegan® made it’s debut September 19th 2015 at a food truck festival in Trenton, NJ.

Since then, the Try Vegan’s food trucks have been fortunate enough to vend at some of the biggest festivals on the east coast including Governor’s Ball, Meadow’s Music Festival, Moonrise Music Festival, NYC Pride, Imagine Festival, and EDC Orlando. All the while, Try Vegan is promoting knowledge and awareness with our “Did You Know” sign on display for thousands of onlookers.

How We became a food Truck

Spring 2015

Asked a neighbor if he knew anyone selling a truck. Turned out he just purchased a new one for his heating and oil company and was looking to sell his old shuttle busses. Looks like I have my work cut out for me.

Summer 2015

I spent the summer cleaning, waxing, welding, plumbing, and electrifying the old shuttle bus. It took a few months, but with the help of some friends I was able to piece together a food truck.

September 19, 2015

It was a long summer converting this old heating and burning truck into a food truck, but all that hard work has finally paid off. The truck is equipped with blenders, a three bay sink, hand wash sink, electricity, freezers, refrigerators, counters, and a shiny red paint job thanks to some rubbing compound, turtle wax, and a ton of elbow grease. September 19th, I had my first event and we have been serving vegan food ever since!
